Four solos and a winch conversion

A collage of five photos of pilots with the club's gliders at Birch Hills Airport, two seated in a cockpit giving a thumbs up and three standing beside the gliders

It has been a busy month at Birch Hills. Jannie flew his first solo on September 6. Preston and Grant followed: Preston earned his wings in the Cadet program a year ago, and Grant did as well, but that was 22 years ago and he hadn’t flown since. Jason flew his first solo on Sunday, October 4.

Stephen, from the Saskatoon Soaring Club, also completed his winch conversion with the club.

A first solo is the milestone every student pilot works toward: the first time you take a glider up entirely on your own, with everything you have learned in dual lessons behind you. Congratulations to all five pilots.

This could be you. Start with a Discovery Flight, and see where it takes you.
